For the past five years, I have had the honor of creating
the commemorative poster art for the Skagit River Interpretive Center’s annual
community retreat. This year’s 30th anniversary poster will be my fifth, and my
final one.
That is a hard thing to say.
Creating these posters has been such a meaningful experience
for me. I have loved being part of a place that brought people together to
learn about the Skagit Valley, our rivers, wildlife, and the connection we all
have, to Mother Earth.
Through my art, I have tried to honor that connection and
share the importance of caring for the places that sustain us. The Center also
gave me the opportunity to learn so much about bald eagles, their habitat, and
the incredible ecosystem they are part of.
I am so grateful to everyone who welcomed me, shared their
knowledge, volunteered their time, supported the Center, and came through the
doors to learn and connect. Each of you helped make this place special.
I am truly sad to see the Center close, but I hope the
spirit of what it created, continues through all of us who care about the
Skagit Valley.
There is still so much to protect. Our rivers, our air, our
soil, our wildlife, and the health of Mother Earth all need our attention.
This may be my final poster for the Center, but it is not
the end of my love for this place or my commitment to the environment.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of the
story. I will always be grateful.
With love and respect for the Skagit Valley.
